(12 Dec 1997) English/Nat A woman who tried to extort 40 million (m) U-S dollars from U-S entertainer Bill Cosby has been sentenced to 26 months in jail by a New York court. Autumn Jackson had threatened to tell tabloid newspapers that she was his illegitimate daughter. Following her conviction, Cosby's lawyer said he was willing to take a blood test to establish once and for all who is her father. However lawyers representing Autumn Jackson said she would not consider taking part in a D-N-A test until after sentencing. Autumn Jackson read a tearful and apologetic statement to the court, before she was officially sentenced to 26 months. The 23-year-old woman who tried to extort 40 million (m) U-S dollars from Bill Cosby could have faced a far harsher term. Under federal sentencing guidelines, Jackson could have been sentenced to nearly six years in jail. However her attorney Robert Baum told reporters she was still disappointed with the outcome of the case. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Autumn is not a threat to society. Autumn is not a threat to repeat any criminal acts, and we had held a heartfelt hope that she would not have to spend any time in jail. We have every intention of filing an appeal, and we are hopeful that we are successful." SUPER CAPTION: Robert Baum, Jackson's Attorney Entertainer Bill Cosby had acknowledged having a sexual liaison with Jackson's mother, Shawn Upshaw, in Las Vegas in the 1970s. He also acknowledged providing more than 100 thousand U-S dollars in financial support over the years. However Cosby has repeatedly denied that he is Jackson's father, and paternity was ruled irrelevant in the charges. The actor did not comment on Friday, but his attorney told reporters Cosby earlier had this to say...
